The University of Otago is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader for the newly created position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori. As the DVC Māori, you will lead the Māori academic agenda at the University of Otago. This includes:
• Leading the development and implementation of the University’s Māori academic research and teaching objectives, strengthening Māori content, delivery and methodology.
• Establishing and providing senior Māori academic leadership in the University, establishing authority in this newly created role.
• Lead and support Māori academic kaimahi and tauira through new and existing networking, ensuing mātauraka Māori flourishes.
• Work closely with key stakeholders including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, and the Office of Māori Development to promote the wellbeing and success of Māori academic kaimahi and tauira.
• Liaise with the Office of Māori Development to advise the University on the correct exercising of kawa and tikaka under the authority of mana whenua of Ōtepoti (and, as appropriate, with mana whenua at other campuses).
Kā pūkeka me kā wheako/Skills and experience
The ideal candidate must have a PhD and have a proven track record of leadership from a university or wānanga in a role such as Tumuaki, Dean, or Head of Department.
We would also expect to see:
• High standing in mātauraka Māori and or rakahau Māori.
• A recognised mātaka in their field.
• High competence in Te Reo Māori me kā tikaka Māori.
• A current research programme at a high international standard and a commitment to maintaining this while serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori.
• Energy and enthusiasm in leading change that inspires a positive culture of transformation.
• The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders.
