Mō matou | About us
Te Whenua Tāroa - Farmlands was born from people joining together to do things differently. Fast forward from our humble beginnings in 1962 and we're New Zealand's largest farming co-operative with an annual turnover of more than $2.3 billion, with over 1200 staff in over 80 locations from Cape Reinga to Bluff!
In addition to our strong core retail business, we also have a well-established shareholder card network (with over 75,000 shareholders and over 7,000 card partner locations), with operations dealing with feed production, nutrition, ecommerce, fuel, distribution, agronomy, and a wide variety of other areas.
Mō te whai waahi | About the opportunity
As part of our commitment to develop governance capability in the rural sector, the Farmlands Board offers a Board Observer Programme. The programme is very similar to the NZ Institute of Directors Future Director programme. We have successfully operated this programme for the past four years.
The Observer is appointed for a year and is expected to attend all Board meetings and some of the sub-committee meetings. The Observer is expected to be fully prepared for each meeting and participate as if they were a Director - with the exception that the Observer has no voting rights or any legal obligations as a Director.
The position is unpaid. However, Farmlands will supply an iPad if necessary, set up with the Diligent software that the Board uses. Farmlands will also pay all reasonable travel expenses including airfares (booked by the company), meals and vehicle expenses where appropriate.
The Co-operative will also provide an induction and ongoing mentoring throughout the year.
Mōhou ake | About you
You will be a Farmlands shareholder looking to gain hands-on experience in rural governance, with an eye on becoming a future director. A strong background in the rural sector and previous governance experience would be ideal.
