The positions are six months in paediatric anaesthesia and six months in paediatric intensive care. The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine is responsible for the management of approximately 11,000 cases per year through 7 operating rooms at Starship Children's Hospital plus additional operating room sessions at a separate day surgery facility, Greenlane Surgical Unit (GSU). A further 1,500 patients are anaesthetised for procedures outside the Operating Rooms which include MRI, CT, Cardiac Investigations, radiotherapy and other radiology procedures at various locations at Starship Children's hospital and Auckland City Hospital. In this role, you will receive exposure to a wide range of paediatric anaesthesia in all major subspecialty areas. We anaesthetise children all over New Zealand, and there will be exposure to airway surgery, cardiac anaesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopaedics and paediatric general surgery. There is an expectation that our fellows will be involved in audit activities and contribute to other departmental activities. Some participation in on call duties will be required. In order to be competitive, you should be either nearing the end of your training or have recently completed a formal anaesthesia training programme, but seeking additional structured training in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care.
