We have a unique opportunity for a Harbourmaster to join the wider Environmental Assurance group to deliver on the regions statutory obligations and lead the Harbourmaster Office.
A vital part of the role is strengthening the connection the Harbourmaster has with the community - primarily through education. Within the Harbourmasters office, there is currently a Deputy and a Deckhand to support this, and to ensure our waterways remain safe places for all boating and recreational users.
This is a permanent, full-time role, based in Motueka and reports directly to the Regulatory Manager. You will need to be well versed and confident in your knowledge of maritime safety standards, the Maritime Transport Act, and have the experience to lead a small team.
There is a mix of office and field work, and you will also need to be able to work flexible hours including public holidays and high demand times during the summer months. There may also be times when you are involved in oil spill response.
While not essential, a background in a regulatory enforcement or compliance role is desirable, and experience of local authority activities or a maritime business environment would also be helpful. You'll also bring a strong commitment to quality customer service and be at ease communicating with a wide range of people.
A current Skipper Restricted Limits certificate of competency or recognised equivalent is the minimum acceptable qualification for this role.
