The role: The Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) works across NHC's general practice clinics as a regular team member delivering brief consultation and evidence-based behavioral interventions to individuals, groups and families/whanau for both mental health and physical health conditions in people of all ages. They provide support to the general practice teams and enhances the capacity to respond to presenting primary mental health concerns. In this role you will work collaboratively with other HIP's, health coaches, NGO Community Support Workers and external evaluators to ensure a seamless support model is delivered. About you: We are looking for people with a passion for delivering the best possible outcomes for Maori and other high need communities. A HIP is part of a general practice team and Te Whatu Ora requires all HIPs to hold registration under one of the following: a) fully registered under the Health Practitioner Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act 2003 with a scope of practice that is appropriate to working as a mental health and addiction clinician e.g. nurse, psychologist, psychotherapist, occupational therapist b) a fully registered alcohol and drug and/or gambling practitioner member of the Drug and Alcohol Addiction Practitioners' Association Aotearoa - New Zealand (dapaanz); or c) a fully registered Social Worker or d) a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) who has received from NZAC a Te Whatu Ora Accreditation certificate authorizing them to work within Health-funded mental health and addictions services. This is a high energy role that requires someone who is enthusiastic, confident and experienced. You will have prior experience with delivering brief interventions to clients and are comfortable working in a Maori-led organization. This role will be a combination of office-based and out in our community practices.
