Our core functions are assessing visa applications for people that are looking to work, study, visit or settle in New Zealand. Ensuring that people crossing the border and staying in New Zealand are entitled to do so. Helping refugees to make New Zealand their home. Playing our part in the global immigration system.As an Immigration Officer, you will apply your strong administrative and client service abilities to make responsible decisions in the processing of visa applications. You will use the information available to you and collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to deliver a positive influence and benefit our people and communities in Aotearoa.In this role, you will interpret legislation and use proven analysis, judgement, and decision-making to make informed immigration decisions. This is an interesting high-volume, fast-paced environment, and your strengths will be in your ability to interpret information well and apply this to good decisions. Previous experience in a similar environment, as well as a background in case management, organisational abilities, and computer literacy, would be advantageous.Our Palmerston North Office receives student visa applications from individuals all over the world who desire to pursue education in New Zealand. We are a collaborative and supportive team that works in a diverse and inclusive environment. The Palmerston North office is in the city core and offers panoramic views of the city. Our full training and support programme is comprehensive and focused on supporting staff to be confident in all they do. At time of advertising the starting salary is $58,977 however due to a step increase post 1 July the starting salary will be $60,727.Skills and experience required recent experience in a high-performance service delivery environment; including caseload management. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven expertise conveying concepts, and information clearly and concisely. Strong computer literacy and aptitude in MS Word Office applications and other standard software packages. Ability to learn quickly and apply new information as required. A strong moral compass, and be known to ‘act with integrity' in all you undertake.To be eligible for this role, you will need either hold a New Zealand citizenship or a New Zealand Permanent Resident class visa. MBIE offers a range of flexible working options. Work your hours. Standard full time, Monday to Friday between 6am - 6pm (training period will be within the hours of 8.30am - 5pm). Part time hours, Monday to Friday between 9am -2:30pm or similar (training will take place between 9am- 2.30pm).
