LIBRARY SERVICES
The Hocken Collections seek an energetic and motivated person for the role of Kaitiaki Mātauraka Māori. This role is designed to support mātauraka Māori teaching, learning and research across the University environment by working collaboratively with staff in support of Māori scholarly success. The role is based at the Hocken Collections and will join a growing team of Māori-focused roles across the University of Otago Libraries. The role reports to the Head Curator Māori and works closely with them on kaupapa Māori initiatives.
The role/Te mahi
In the Kaitiaki Mātauraka Māori role you will:
• Develop relationships within Māori staff networks, Māori support services and the wider Māori community in support of Māori teaching, learning and research excellence.
• Develop, deliver and evaluate mātauraka Māori embedded Library services, programmes and projects.
• Work collaboratively with Library staff to ensure collections remain relevant for Māori and are sustained to support current and future needs of Māori teaching, learning and research.
• Work collaboratively with staff across the University to develop appropriate resource materials including for promotion and online, to support and enhance Māori curriculum content, programmes and services.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
To be successful in this role you will be a warm, engaged, professional, accountable creative with:
• Knowledge of mātauraka Māori as it applies within cultural heritage collections.
• Experience in effectively managing relationships and collaborative work practices.
• A good understanding of tikaka and reo Māori, of te ao Māori, and of kaupapa Māori approaches to teaching, learning and research.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A relevant qualification in Māori Studies, Library and Information Studies, Cultural Heritage or equivalent professional experience will be your advantage.
Candidates who possess a strong background in administration rather than library experience will also be considered.

Hocken Collections is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading research libraries with documentary heritage collections of national significance. We support the teaching, learning and research aspirations of staff and students from the University of Otago, and other academic, professional, and independent researchers and visitors to the collections.

The salary level for this position is provisionally evaluated as Level 6, and is subject to change.
