Theology has been taught at the University of Otago for over 75 years. The University of Otago is a research-intensive university with a long history of excellence in teaching and research. The role/Te mahi
The Theology Programme at the University of Otago, Mātai Whakapono Karaitiana, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Theology (Pacific). The position is a full-time, three-year, fixed-term appointment.
The Theology Programme is committed to strengthening its curriculum and research in relation to Pasifika communities and in accordance with the University of Otago’s Pacific Strategic Framework. The position offers an opportunity for a suitably qualified scholar to teach from a Pacific perspective and to conduct research that will be beneficial for Pacific communities.
In this role you will be expected to engage in ongoing research, teaching, and undertake postgraduate supervision. You will teach an existing paper on Moana Pasifika Theology, contribute a Pasifika perspective on other papers within the programme, and develop two further new papers in some aspect of Christian theology.
In addition, you will undertake research and share the results of your research through appropriate avenues including academic and popular publications, conferences, and workshops or seminars with stakeholders in the wider community.
The successful candidate will be a full staff member of the Theology Programme, and will be expected to take appropriate administrative and service roles within the Theology Programme. The expectation of academic staff members is that they will devote approximately 40% of their time to teaching and preparation, 40% to research, and 20% to administration and service activities.

The successful candidate will be a scholar with teaching and research experience. A PhD in any area of Christian Theology is preferred but exceptional candidates with a Masters degree may be considered.
We particularly welcome applications from Pasifika scholars with research interests that offer a Pacific perspective and scholars who will conduct research that is beneficial for Pacific communities.

The salary range for a Lecturer is $90,902 to $107,300 per annum.
