Mō tō mātou rōpū (About our team):

The Ministry for Primary Industries has a great opportunity for an exceptional Manager Media, with a background in managing communication teams and a knowledge of the modern media environment, Government and the public sector, to lead and manage a team of communications professionals. This role reports to the Director Communications, and is responsible for delivering media management to build and enhance MPI’s reputation. Through the team, the Manager Media will develop and implement media strategies for both traditional and social media and build enduring relationships with the media and stakeholders.

 

Mōu – (About You):

We are looking for a communications leader who is proactive, politically savvy and attuned to issues, risks and opportunities.  You will already have a wide range of media relationships and will be able to develop new internal and external relationships quickly. As this is a fast-paced role, you must have the ability to calmly manage multiple changing priorities and thrive under pressure. You will have both a strategic focus and an eye for detail. 

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga (About the role):

  • Leading and developing a team of communication professionals
  • Developing the media team’s practices and culture
  • Providing expert, strategically focused media advice on the full range of operational, strategic and reputational events
  • Working with news editors, newsrooms and journalists to ensure that a professional, constructive relationship is always maintained
  • Ensuring the day-to-day proactive and reactive management of our social media channels, including working with others to create and support engaging social content.
  • Managing risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Work with Managers in the Communications Directorates and around the rest of the business on the planning, creation and leverage of content.
