This is an exciting opportunity to provide pharmacy leadership within the Ministry and work collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver on the strategic priorities for pharmacy, pharmacist services and the broader primary health care system.


The Pharmacy team sits within the Ministry’s Health System Improvement and Innovation Directorate. The Directorate’s function is to support and promote innovation and continuous system improvement through quality commissioning and policy, effective regulation and evidence-based decision making.


As Pharmacy Manager you will:

  • Lead programmes of work within the Directorate and Ministry to deliver on the Government’s and Ministry priorities and objectives as guided by the Pharmacy Action Plan 2016-2020
  • Provide pharmacy leadership and actively participate in the project to refresh the Ministry’s Pharmacy Action Plan 2016-2020
  • Oversee the provision of high-quality, pharmacy-related advice and reporting as it relates to the key accountability documents, in particular the DHB Annual Planning process
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Build collaborative and positive relationships across the Directorate, Ministry, the wider health sector, government and other external stakeholders.


To be successful you will:

  • Be an experienced manager who enjoys a challenging role that provides plenty of variety
  • Have strong people leadership and management experience and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and broker with other stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in pharmacy, health or experience in a relevant field, and a sound understanding of the health and pharmacy sector and the Ministry relationship within it
  • Have a sound understanding of the machinery of government and experience in public policy would be an advantage.
