We are seeking a suitably qualified candidate for an advanced training/chapter training position in Palliative Medicine in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty DHB’s. 1 Position is available from 29 July 2024.
Clinical attachments will be allocated following the recruitment process; successful candidates may be allocated attachments at the following sites: Waikato Hospital, Hospice Waikato, Waipuna Hospice (Tauranga), Tauranga Hospital. In addition to the core attachments there are varied opportunities for experience with a number of other specialties in the hospital setting.

The Waikato Palliative Care Program, currently accredited with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, encompasses two sites; Waikato Hospital and Hospice Waikato, providing specialist Palliative Care across the Waikato Region. It is an exciting time for the service as it is about to undergo transformation in the way it works. We are looking for a candidate keen to help us implement changes as we adapt to Te Whatu Ora. The Palliative Care department currently reports within the Division of Oncology. A consult liaison service is provided by medical and nursing specialists to patients with both malignant and non-malignant diagnoses. A small number of patients are admitted under the Palliative Care Consult service each year with complex palliative care needs or as transfers from other regions to access tertiary level Palliative Care input.
Hospice Waikato is the main community palliative care provider to the region comprising a 10-bed inpatient unit along with Rainbow Place, NZ’s only specialist Children’s Hospice facility. Hospice Waikato also provides an at home service, a rural outreach programme, plus outpatient clinics. Patients and /whanau/family of Hospice have access to a full range of psychosocial and spiritual support through illness and bereavement.

Advanced trainee positions are contestable. They are subject to a competitive interview process following the submission of an up to date curriculum vitae, covering letter and three current references, one of which must be from your current or most recent clinical supervisor.
