ABOUT THE ROLE
The Emergency Department at Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is open for applications for PGY3+ RMOs starting 30 January 2024 for 6 months or 1 year. We are accredited by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) for the Rural Hospital Medicine Training Programme (RHMTP). Accreditation as a network ED site for ACEM training is anticipated in the next 12 months. Our service includes resident medical officers (RMOs) working closely with senior medical officers (SMOs) as well as trainee interns to provide efficient and effective care for the people of Tairāwhiti.
Gisborne Hospital is the primary health care facility on the East Cape of Aotearoa New Zealand.The Hospital is a 115-bed teaching hospital and has inpatient services in medical and surgical, women's health and paediatrics. Total yearly attendances of 25,000 and a 20 percent admission rate. The department has 14 beds including resuscitation and isolation bays. There is access to onsite laboratory and radiology facilities (CT, US, MRI). The group is comprised of FACEM or vocationally registered emergency specialist working with urgent care doctors.
As an RMO in the Emergency Department, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in emergency medicine as part of our team. The department consists of FACEMs and Emergency Medicine Specialists. Our ED will expose you to a wide range of patient presentations. You will get supervised procedural experience (such as intubations, chest drains, arterial & central lines and orthopaedic reductions) not easily available at bigger centres with numerous trainees. There are also a number of educational opportunities including, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions.
