About the role We are seeking to recruit a Policy Analyst to join the team’s work across a range of areas. This includes: managing New Zealand’s bilateral engagement with other countries on fisheries issues, contributing to the development and implementation of New Zealand’s National Plans of Actions on seabirds and sharks, and our wider approach to protected species in international fisheries, contributing to our engagement in regional fisheries management organisations and international organisations. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in developing international rules that underpin the sustainability and prosperity of the Pacific region. Occasional travel is likely to be necessary when travel resumes, in addition to developing policy advice, drafting briefings, and reporting to international organisations in collaboration with other parts of MPI and other agencies. Fisheries experience is not essential and we are seeking a range of experience and skills sets. However, experience in natural resource management, policy analysis and strong collaboration experience is desirable. We are looking for a good team player who will be able to forge strong working relationships across the public sector, with stakeholders and international partners. You will be working across MPI teams to implement New Zealand’s international obligations, working closely with other agencies –particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Conservation – as well as stakeholders and officials of other countries. Strong writing and communication skills will be important, and experience in briefing Ministers would be an advantage. It is high profile, fast paced and exciting work. If you are up for the challenge, we want to hear from you.
