We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.The Intelligence directorate is a new structure, a central population and public health operational Intelligence team that is regionally networked and collaborative across organisations and agencies. The establishment of the Intelligence directorate in NPHS gives us the opportunity to review our products and processes and ensure we are honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. In our work, we provide advice and deliver products that are used to inform evidence-based decision-making across the NPHS. Our data and products need to be informative and interpretable; they also need to reflect the voices and stories of our communities.We have an opportunity to join us as the Principal Advisor Epidemiology. This permanent, full-time senior role will see you provide specialist leadership to ensure the Intelligence directorate is at the forefront of epidemiology knowledge, science and techniques. You will provide thought leadership as we develop and continuously improve a new generation intelligence products and services that directly support operational public health decision making. This is a critical position within the new National Advisory team where you will be called upon to: * Provide strong subject matter and technical expertise; * Collaborate with other like-minded experts in the pursuit of providing cross functional, responsive and hiqh quality advice; * Partner with a view to providing an equity and te tiriti based approach to ways of working and communicating advice.Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora is on a journey to build a national Intelligence capability that will influence and support the health of all New Zealanders, so you will thrive on responsibility to being forward thinking and nimble to support that growth.Mōu | About youYou are someone with 10 -15 years experience in epidemiology, supported with relevant professional and industry qualifications. Seen as a seasoned professional and known as the ‘organisational expert' for an area of domain expertise. You are committed to collaboration and are enthusiastic about continuous improvement in the pursuit of better outcomes for our communities.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience * Relevant post graduate tertiary qualification * Knowledge and experience in developing a health surveillance system development and/or management * Knowledge of and experience with disease spread modelling and disease response * Proven data management experience * Excellent analytical skills combined with an ability to quickly assimilate new information, and to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences * Knowledge and skills to deal effectively with complex and politically sensitive situations or topics * An understanding of and ability to select, adapt and use a range of frameworks, principles, tools and methods and draw on experience in different areas of expertise to apply them appropriately to given issuesKa kawea e koe | You will bring: * A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions.
