About the opportunity

Ideally based in Christchurch, with travel as required, we have a permanent vacancy for a dynamic, self-starting and self-sufficient Project Manager who will be responsible for delivering complex, multi-disciplined projects across Aotearoa.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a key role in leading project teams through the design, construction and commissioning phases of projects within our Substations – whether that be Primary Asset replacements, Protection or Substation Management Systems upgrades.

Safety during delivery activities is an imperative and you’ll partner with our service providers to ensure robust systems and practices are in place. You’ll also contribute to improving asset quality and maximising system reliability

Using your street smarts to seek to understand the drivers of cost and quality in constructing our assets, you’ll pursue efficiencies and sustainable cost reductions while ensuring outcomes meet our high asset performance expectations.

With the customer at the heart of everything we do, you will drive customer value with an eye on the overriding value to New Zealand.

What we’re looking for

Naturally you are someone who takes an enterprise-wide view and has the curiosity to question and look beyond the obvious to seek alternatives. You’ll understand the rules, acknowledge the limits of your delegated authority but be able to work the grey areas where needed!

Calm and composed under pressure, you’re a go-getter that uses every ounce of your knowledge and experience to get things done. You can work with, and motivate, a broad range of people and personalities to deliver an outcome.

You thrive working from a mobile office in a role that’s not your typical 9-5.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will reflect the following requirements:

  • 5+ years of delivering projects in a safety critical or utility type environment.
  • A sustained track record in concurrently delivering a broad range of infrastructure projects.
  • You are comfortable in having multiple projects on the go at once
  • You’re able to “talk shop” with contractors, designers and technical specialists – often acting as an intermediary between the three
  • People centric, you will seek to understand different perspectives, driving cohesion, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Strong safety leader with a sound understanding of health and safety legislation – you deliver great safety outcomes through demonstrating the right safety behaviours and driving a positive safety culture.
  • You are proficient in administering different contract types, with a fair and level head when dealing with contractors, variation orders and schedule changes.
  • Exceptional management of the “back office activities” including forecasting and reporting. You understand the information flows required for governance and auditing purposes.
  • While not essential, the following will be highly regarded:

  • A Project Management qualification e.g. PMP or PMBOK
  • Familiarity with operating in an environment that has multiple levels of regulation
  • Please note: While our preferred location is Christchurch, we are happy to consider candidates based in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North or Wellington who demonstrate the¬†depth and breadth of¬†experience required.
