Te Aka Whai Ora is the primary source of strategy and policy for Hauora Māori, leading the identification and monitoring of equitable health outcomes, development of the Māori health workforce, and direct commissioning of kaupapa Māori services. Our whāinga is to achieve greater Māori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all. We play a critical role in enhancing Māori rangatiratanga, ensuring equitable access to healthcare and supporting whānau to take control of their health and wellbeing. We work in close partnership with the Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) and Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) and enable Iwi Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.

This is a leadership position, reporting to the Regional Director (RD) and provides policy, analytical and service advice to support the RD to undertake their role. This role will need to work closely with the other team members in the region, national advisors and General Managers.

The Kaiāki Mātāmua ā-Rohe – Senior Advisor Region is focused on providing the RD with necessary qualitative and quantitative advice, reporting, briefings and expertise to help them oversee the region; to report to national office leaders; and to be an effective member of the Regional Integration Team (RIT) and the national Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Any advice and analysis should be founded in Māori public & population health philosophy, Te Ao Māori, Matauranga Māori and Te Tiriti and will.
