DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY
ECOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAMME
About our team/Mō te tīma
The University of Otago is New Zealand's first and oldest University. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages.
It is also one of New Zealand's largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of $1.6 billion and about 4,000 full-time equivalent staff based in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill.
The Botany Department uses New Zealand’s idiosyncratic native flora to explore the physiology, ecology and evolution of plants, algae, cyanobacteria, fungi and viruses.
The Ecology Degree Programme is a vibrant, successful cross-departmental programme within the Division of Sciences. The Ecology Programme studies animals and plants in relation to their environment and with each other. Staff from several departments (mainly Botany, Zoology and Marine Science) teach into the Programme.
