The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

The purpose of this role is to support the management of the transport system across urban and rural New Zealand. This role monitors and responds to planned and unplanned events on and around the transport network, as well as providing accurate, relevant and timely traveller information to road users. This role is a functional Operator within a small team.

The Senior Operator plays an important role in supporting the Team Leaders in managing the Wellington Transport Operations Centre (WTOC) day to day operations and will be available for shift work based on a 24/7 roster. This role provides the shift team with day to day supervision, on the job advice, training and safety guidance to enable the real time operators to fulfil their duties effectively and efficiently.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience with call centre operations, radio telephone usage and traffic management, or Emergency Services
  • Experience working with policies and Standard Operating Procedures for incident management and issue resolution
  • In-depth and comprehensive knowledge of traffic management systems and their application to the Traffic Operations Centre
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritise and work well under pressure, including staying calm when dealing with matters of high priority and importance
  • Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing circumstances as the need arises
  • High levels of communication and relationship management skills
  • The ability to coach and mentor others
  • An understanding of the Co-ordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) model
