Right now, we have a vacancy for an Anaesthetist to join the departmentof Anaesthesia at Timaru Hospital. Located in the South Island of New Zealandthe district of South Canterbury is centrally located and an easy to place tolive and work, with instant access to an array of outdoor activities.
Anaesthesia Department at Timaru Hospital
The team of ten actively service four theatres, an ObstetricUnit (averaging 590 births per year), and a combined Intensive CareUnit/Coronary Care Unit, all with the assistance of Anaesthetic Technicians andskilled Theatre, Day Patient Stay and ICU Nursing staff.
The Department is also responsible for Persistent Pain Services inconjunction with Clinical Nurse Specialists, so a subspecialist interest inthis area or in Intensive Care would be viewed as beneficial.
Anaesthetist Specialist Role
This position provides efficient, safe and appropriate anaestheticservices, intensive care unit and pain management treatment as well as daypatient and outpatient clinic sessions.
The position ispart time or full time (to be negotiated & agreed) and works during thenormal hours of work between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday; and on arostered On Call basis outside normal hours during the week, at weekends and onpublic holidays.
On Call Duties:
The after-hoursroster frequency is 1:9 to provide cover outside of the normal hours of work,at weekends and on Public Holidays. Whilst providing cover you are first on call.
There is also scope to consider engaging in some PrivatePractice with the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital at which a number of ourexisting team have a professional association with.
Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury isresponsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury regionand Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, (which has just commenced asignificant refurbishment programme), providing our local community with suchcritical 24/7 services as ED, ICU/CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENTSurgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care,Internal Medicine and Paediatrics.
