Clinical Nurse Specialist - Forensic Intellectual Disability Secure Services Fixed-term role (ending June 2025) Full-time 1 FTE (40 hours per week) Based in Point ChevalierThe Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service (ARFPS), based at the Mason Clinic, is the largest forensic mental health service in New Zealand. Services are provided by Te Whatu Ora Waitemata with a catchment area from the Bombay Hills to Cape Reinga, with forensic intellectual disability services extending to Taupo. The ARFPS provides comprehensive, evidence based secure mental health and intellectual disability services to the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons. The Forensic Intellectual Disability Secure Service (FIDSS) aims to build good lives alongside tangata whaikaha hinengaro (people in pursuit of mental strength and in this case who have an Intellectual Disability), and Whanau using the current best practice to move towards inclusion through safe, person and Whanau-centred care and rehabilitation. The collective values of FIDSS are centred on the key themes of; Rights, Aroha / Compassion, Choices, Connection, Success and Pono / Honesty. Therapeutic input to support rehabilitation underpins every interaction with the tangata whaikaha hinengaro, with person centred, evidenced based and proactive plans that improve a person's quality of life and support them to make a positive change and there are individual and group therapies provided that are designed to meet the specific identified needs of each tangata whaikaha hinengaro. Rehabilitation is focused on strengths that builds capabilities in people in order to reduce the risk of reoffendingThe FIDSS is seeking to enhance the nursing clinical leadership with a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position. The CNS role will contribute to advanced practice specialist nursing care in direct care delivery, contributing to the development of integrated service delivery across the continuum of care. The CNS will contribute advanced forensic intellectual disability (ID) / dual disabilities (DD) nursing knowledge and skills to the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care provided during a tangata whaikaha hinengaro pathway. The CNS will be expected to : Mentor, coaching and support for Registered and Enrolled Nurses. Provide clinical and professional nursing leadership. Role model evidence based nursing care in a multidisciplinary team. Establish of nursing quality initiatives. Manage potential risk associated with a tangata whaikaha hinengaro by leading timely risk assessments, de-escalation and early intervention strategies.
