This is an outstanding opportunity to join the board of Basketball New Zealand as a Future Director.
Basketball New Zealand is the national body formed to advocate for, promote and support the sport in New Zealand. It is for the players and teams, supporting elite performance and encouraging diversity of participation in the sport at all levels. Equally, Basketball New Zealand focusses on the fan experience, increasing engagement and supporting New Zealand talent internationally. The boards focus over the next year is delivering and executing Basketball New Zealand newly developed strategy.
The successful Future Director will have:
· Experience or an interest in sports and entertainment sectors.
· Experience collaborating with the public sector (local or national level) will be highly valued
· Experience in revenue generation through philanthropy
Board experience is not essential, but it is expected that the successful applicant has some experience working with, or reporting, to a board.
The existing board have a wide range of skills and diversity of age, gender, and ethnicity. They are excited to welcome new ideas and capability and are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who bring an international perspective to the sport in New Zealand.
Board meetings:
Board meetings are held every 6 - 8 weeks and alternate between in person (Auckland or Wellington) and online meetings. You would attend online or in person if you are based in the meeting location. In person board meetings are typically 4 -5 hours and online meetings, a 3 hour duration. Preparation time is approximately 4 hours for each meeting.
There may be an opportunity to sit on sub-committees depending on skillset and requirements

The role is not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Term and commencement date:
This is a 12-month appointment with a commencement date of 1 June 2024 (first board meeting 13th June).
