Te tūranga / The role
Reporting into Amotaketake - Manager Office of the Chief Māori Officer, as Pou Reo, you'll provide Council with the support to grow our reo Māori capability to help us achieve our aspiration of being a bilingual city by 2040.
You'll get to work with the entire business whānau including our Council Controlled Organisations (CCO) to ensure that reo Māori is developed consistently and appropriately, delivered through all we do, and quality through localised mita. You'll be involved in translating, planning, measuring to ensure our reo Māori is abundant, is revitalised, is flourishing, and empowering, all of our community work.
This is a great role for someone who is passionate about language revitalisation and wants to see te reo Māori better reflected and weaved throughout the work we do.
Mōu ake / You:
We are looking for a licensed translator (or equivalent, able to achieve this level of excellence in te reo Māori) able to ensure our language feats are achieved with quality and authenticity. You'll ideally bring existing iwi relationships and a tertiary qualification in te reo Māori, equivalent experience within te ao Māori or experience working in a similar role.
You will be a credible, mana enhancing leader who weaves Māori leadership values and ways of thinking throughout your relationships, programme of work and community. You will demonstrate resilience, courage, resolve, and will work to ensure the past, present, and future role of Māori communities in our city will be valued and reflected in all aspects of your work.
You'd really thrive in this role if you're a team player with the natural ability to determine someone's needs without them always telling you. You'll be in hot demand so will need to be able to manage your time well and know what to prioritise. You'll be comfortable providing BAU support but with the ability to see the bigger picture and offer a strategic lens where necessary.
