    About the Role

    The Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN) project is a joint undertaking between Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand and Geoscience Australia. SouthPAN will deliver a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) to both countries. The SouthPAN project team comprises people from both organisations.

    You will play an important part in the delivery of the SouthPAN project across New Zealand and Australia. You will be responsible for working with a prime systems integrator and the project team to deliver SouthPAN infrastructure and will provide global navigation satellite system (GNSS) technology knowledge to the project.

    This role is based in Wellington and you will report to the National Geodesist. As a member of the SouthPAN virtual engineering team you will also have a technical reporting line to the Canberra-based SouthPAN Engineering Manager.

    What you will do:

  • Provide GNSS technology expertise and technical knowledge to the project
  • Participate in technical reviews to support the certification of the SouthPAN system for safety‑of‑life applications
  • Develop and implement interface requirements and support the provision of Government Furnished Elements
  • Participate in verification and validation activities
  • Develop support and test equipment to enable integration, testing, acceptance, and certification audits.
  • What you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience of systems engineering
  • Experience as an engineer working on space, satellite or aviation projects
  • Experience as an engineer working on government procurement programmes
  • A detailed understanding of navigation satellite systems such as GPS, Galileo and SBAS is highly desirable.
  • An ability to share and communicate complex ideas and information with a diverse audience
