The Department of Pathology is one of eight departments within the Dunedin School of Medicine Dunedin. The Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical and health science student teaching and supervision of postgraduate research students.
The Department houses several internationally recognised research groups and has six major research areas including; Cancer Biology, Clinical Pathology, Development, Genetics and Epigenetics, Haematology and Immunotherapy.
Teaching laboratories in the Department of Pathology run for several sessions each week during term time, and are fundamental to teaching in the Medical Laboratory Science Professional programme and BBiomedSci papers PATH201, PATH301 and PATH 302.
The role/Te mahi
Our team of Technical Staff work closely with staff and students to provide technical support for the Department’s teaching and research.
The primary focus of this role is:
• To conduct laboratory set-up and prepare materials for all undergraduate and professional programme practical classes run by the Department of Pathology.
• As time permits, to provide technical support/assistance to researchers/research labs, Compliance Manager and Department Health and Safety Officer.
• To ensure the smooth operation of all undergraduate practical sessions in the laboratory.
• To undertake tasks as requested by the Lead Teaching Laboratory Technician.
• Together with the Lead Teaching Laboratory Technician, management and organisation of all undergraduate and professional programme practical sessions run by the Department of Pathology.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with:
• At minimum of one of the following qualifications:
o BSc (Hons)
o BMLSc (or equivalent)
o BBioMedSci (Hons)
o MSc (preferably in biological science or laboratory medicine)
• Relevant research or diagnostic laboratory experience.
• Working knowledge of basic experimental techniques.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week), permanent, full year position.
