About the role

We are seeking a registered psychologist with clinical or health psychology qualifications to join our regional specialist team of psychologists and social workers in supporting people facing a cancer diagnosis/treatment, and their whānau. You will work with predominantly outpatient and community-based patients with high and complex needs, from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. 

You will be well supported by a small, friendly and enthusiastic team, with leadership from the Regional Lead. We offer opportunities for professional development, supervision and the opportunity to make a real difference to people affected by a cancer. 


  • Provide psychological care for patients and their whānau 
  • Conduct thorough psychological assessments, as well as formulate and implement evidence-based psychological interventions
  • Maximise the person’s ability to cope with the difficulties of a new or recurrent diagnosis, as well as support their ability to engage in cancer treatment 
  • Ensure that service users have timely and equitable access to psychological support 
  • Skills & Experience

  • 2-10 years of post-graduate clinical experience
  • A commitment and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (and application to health) and a willingness to work positively to improve health outcomes for Maori
  • Experience of working with patients with complex needs 
  • At least 1 year of experience working within a DHB or other healthcare setting (desirable)
  • Experience working with people affected by cancer (desirable)
  • Ability to work autonomously
